Everybody knows that over the summer months the quality of TV programming greatly declines. The terrible cheap shows are on that are not good enough to show in the higher rating periods and all the main presenters are on holiday.
The same goes for radio. All the presenters are on holiday and there are either fill-ins or no presenters at all. The difference between radio and tv is that the quality of music does not decline. In fact it probably goes up as presenters / programmers are given more freedom to do as they choose.
The month or so over the christmas- new year period was some of the most enjoyable radio listening i've had. Especially on Triple J.
It gave me the opportunity to hear some awesome new bands and not have to deal with mediocre radio personalities that seem to be in abundance on Australian radios...
I listen to the radio either for music or talkback; but not a hybrid blend of both at the same time.

That'd make a nice change. I hate the music they play on JJJ.
I also think 3RRR and PBS have gone downhill, I've replaced them with BFM streaming.
They are surprisingly good, v. eclectic.
I actually enjoyed some of the stuff they played on ABC1 TV over summer. I forget what they were now, but I remeber enjoying them at the time.
Oh yeah, a lot of UK sketch comedy.
Yup. The J's have been in an uncharacteristic listenable period. Several treats arose for me, I won't recommend because from reading your stuff our tastes are different... but it has made a nice change. Remember - Rosey (Should be)Beaton.
how could i forget Rosie. can't stand her. her and kingsmill and robbie buck all need to be axed.
recommend for me anyway, let's see how it goes.
TMATP - they play more british television than any other network, yet they're the ABC. but true, british are funnier than americans
SUB@ - i've relocated to WA. can't get the good stuff that is RRR and PBS anyway. i'll try this Big Friendly Monster
What are you current faves Kiks? (I like your music suggestions)...
I'm enjoying new and new-ish The Girl Most Likely, Girl in a Coma, The Cliks, Uh Huh Her, Lissy Trullie, An Horse, Those Darlins....
uh huh her, isn't that my favourite PJ Harvey album? or is it a band now?
i don't think you can go past the new (and only) EP of Florence and the Machine, together with An Horse and Bat for Lashes new one. top three releases of 2009 to date
and all female singers too, so you'd like that
Uh Huh Her is indeed a band, kind of more electronic and poppy than I would normally like but DAMN catchy. Am loving on An Horse already, will def try Florence and Bat - thanks! (Just read a great article on Bat for Lashes actually, in the latest Bust magazine...)
And yes - it's my fave PJ album too (but only just)
be sure to get the first bat for lashes album too. probably the greatest album ever
do you have any Jens Lekman yet? or Beirut?
also, pretty much anything to do with Wouter DeBacker. Like Gotye or The Basics
Kik, make me a cd mix tape. I'm bored with my music. I'll make you one too. Now you're on the other side, we could be music pen pals. Lazy ones, though, of course. Like one cd a year.
I reckon early Harvey's the best.
